January - Nature Lover

Merry Christmas, crafters!  I hope you like my latest project for the Polkadoodles We Love to Create Challenge Blog.  For the main image I used the Nature Lover – January digi stamp which I coloured using Copics and Promarker pens and die cut the image using a Spellbinders Scalloped Rectangle die.

I created the background by covering a circular board with a co-ordinating coloured paper from the Octavia Moonfly - Paper Heaven Paperholic collection and edging the board with ‘Salvaged Patina’ embossing glaze.

I then stamped the flowers and leaves stamps from the ‘Queen of Hearts Collage’ and ‘Flower Collage’ stamp sets on to Octavia Moonfly - Paper Heaven Paperholic papers and plain card stock from my stash, fussy cutting to create a floral frame around my central image.  I took the butterfly stamp from the ‘Flower Collage’ stamp set and heat embossed directly on to the board using ‘Worn Lipstick’ Distress Powder and on to a darker teal card stock.

I used the toadstools from ‘Winnie Wonderland Embellies 1&2’ to add extra detail and interest, shading the spots with a Gelly Roll Sparkle Pen ‘Clear Star’ pen.

To tie in the scalloped edges from the main image, I punched small circles out of white card stock and spritzed using ‘Dylusions’ ink sprays in shades of Fushia and Hot Pink.

I look forward to seeing your beautiful projects this month,

Happy Crafting!

Gabrielle

Winnie in Wonderland – Time is Running Out

Hello there, crafters!  Here is my latest make for the Polkadoodles We love to create blog challenge using the delightful ‘Winnie in Wonderland’ collection.   For this mixed media art board I used the ‘Time is Running Out’ digi stamp and the white rabbit from the ‘Let’s Hurry’ digi stamp, colouring with my Copics and Promarkers.

I created the background by painting the art board with black gesso and edging it with embossing enamel.  I used one of the background papers from the ‘Winnie Wonderland Paper Heaven 8’ collection which I tore to create a textured edge and coloured using distress ink.

I really enjoyed playing with the ‘Winnie Wonderland Embellies 1&2’ to create the scene and I particularly liked having the white rabbit pop out of a tea cup!  I used Crackle Accents on the large clock face to add shine and texture and included some embellishments from my stash to tie it all together and add extra interest and dimension, including sprocket dies which I covered with embossing enamel for a colourful, rusty look.

Happy Crafting!

Red Queen

Hi there! I am really excited to be sharing with you my first post as a Design Team member for #Polkadoodles! For this mixed media piece I used the ‘Red Queen’ Digi Stamp from the ‘Winnie in Wonderland’ collection which I coloured with my Copics, Promarkers and Aqua Pens and then decoupaged to give her beautiful outfit some depth and dimension.

I created the piece on an MDF heart plaque, starting by sponge painting the background and adding collaged pieces from the ‘Winnie Wonderland Paper Heaven 8’ collection. I added the gorgeous trees from the ‘Winnie Wonderland Embellies 1&2’ collection to frame her. For extra interest, I added flowers and a metal embellishment from my stash.
Happy Crafting!

Choose Kindness and Laugh Often

Hello there! Today has been a day for staying in the warmth and Crafting, so I decided to create a colourful mixed media canvas.
Firstly, I stencilled on to the canvas using the 'Something Different' stencil by Cleverprints and resist paste from Pretty Gets Gritty.
Once dry, I sprayed the canvas using ink sprays from Dylusions and Ranger.
I stamped the heart and flowers from the Misfitspart1 collection 'Not a Weed' from Cleverprints and inked them using distress oxides.
Once cut out, I layered them on to the canvas adding a bit of thread for texture.
Happy Crafting!

Create and be Mermazing

Hi there. For today's post I want to show an mdf heart plaque I decorated for a quirky, underwater theme.
First off, I painted the heart using #dylusionspaint in shades of 'London Blue' and 'Blue Hawaiian'.
I then stamped and fussy cut the mermaid and wave image from #artbymarlene from the 'Underwater Artist' stamp set. I love the expression on the mermaid's face! I coloured the images with watercolours.
Next I chose collage elements from #artbymarlene and washi paper from #janedavenport to add to my design.
Once all pieces were in place I added a little doodling, a quirky phrase and glossy accent bubbles.
Thank you for looking and happy crafting!

All about the Purple

As the weather has been so changeable, I have made the most of staying in the warmth by keeping busy in the craft room. For this canvas I really wanted to keep the colour pallette simple and chose purple as it can be a tricksy colour to work with. I used stencils and texture mediums to create the background and then applied acrylic paints and waxes once dried. The image is a gorgeous stamp design by JMC Designs which I coloured with alcohol markers.

Halloween Whimsy

This Halloween, I thought I should make a whimsical seasonal piece. For this mixed media project, I used an mdf base which I first primed. I then roughly applied acrylic paints, drying each layer so as not to muddy the colours. I then used stencils from JMC Designs and Funky Fossil Designs to create the swirly spell and starry sky. The images of the witch, cauldron, bats and raven are die cut from Tim Holtz Sizzix dies. I added texture to the cauldron by roughly applying texture place. The moon background was created using the moon mask from Ranger and texture paste.

I am entering this make on the Always Anything Goes Challenge
